Red Cross Basic (Formerly Emergency) First Aid training is a one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.
The topics covered in this Basic First Aid course include:
- The Red Cross
- Preparing to respond
- The EMS system
- Check, Call, Care
- Airway emergencies
- Breathing and Circulation emergencies
- First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Wound care
NOTE: If you require First Aid Certification for work, we highly recommend our Blended Intermediate First Aid course, as it covers all the listed topics in this course, plus all the topics listed below (that are not covered in this Basic program), and can still be completed with only one-day in-class!
The additional topics most commonly required by employers that are NOT covered in the course include:
- Head and spine injuries
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries
- Sudden Medical Emergencies
- Environmental Emergencies
- Poisons (includes opioid poisoning)
Certification: 3-year certification in Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED (Level C)
A permanent virtual certificate will be emailed to you upon successfully completing the course.
You will also be able to view your manual and certification online at any time through your MyRedCross account. Certification is valid for 3 years.
